Hi, I’m Carol O’Saben. I’m a Licensed Psychologist who works with adults who want to come to a deeper understanding of themselves so they can make lasting and meaningful changes in the destructive patterns that are holding them back.
My goal is to help you stop the deep dissatisfaction that comes from not being able to break out of recurring patterns of behavior that no longer serve you and help you to understand the factors that influence your patterns so you have the freedom to make different choices in the future.
My own growth through personal life struggles is what helps me relate so deeply with clients. I grew up in an alcoholic family that was full of chaos and dysfunction. I learned that it was more important to look good on the outside than to feel good on the inside. I learned to shut down my real feelings and tried to be the person everyone else wanted me to be. It wasn’t until a gifted therapist helped me make the connections between my childhood experiences and my unhealthy patterns as an adult that I was able to make effective changes and was able to live a life that was reflective of who I am and how I want to be in the world.
My life experiences are what led me to become the psychologist I am today.
Being a psychologist is an honor. I love helping people understand themselves deeply and witnessing them achieve more fulfilling lives. The most rewarding thing about being a psychologist is knowing that I had a part in helping someone else transform their life.
I am committed to helping you understand the factors that influence your patterns so you have the freedom to make different meaningful changes.
I received my PhD in Counseling Psychology from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and have been a licensed psychologist since 1995.
I’ve worked in a number of different settings over the years (university counseling centers, community mental health centers, hospitals and health centers). I love the freedom that private practice offers me to support my clients in the most meaningful way possible.
Sessions will provide you with the space to focus on yourself without feeling selfish. By helping you to feel safe and comfortable, you’ll be able to figure things out about yourself and identify how you can start to make changes.
It’s important to me to provide a non-judgmental space where you can be yourself and have safety within session. There isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to therapy.
Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.
I bring an open mind, flexibility and some humor to sessions.
I have a natural ability to:
People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can help people feel heard and understood which helps them start to heal.
